The art of thoughtful gifting

How to Choose a Gift for New Parents

Bear Hugs & Blooms Hamper

Choose a new-parent gift by deciding who it is for: the parents, the baby or the household. That decision makes the next questions clearer. A gift intended to recognise the parents does not need to make claims about what a baby needs.

Start with the parents’ preferences

Ask what the recipients would enjoy and whether there is anything they would rather avoid. A familiar preference is a better starting point than assumptions about all new parents. Check the selected product’s current inclusions before treating it as suitable for the whole household.

Check item-level information

A collection name or photograph does not establish that an item is suitable for a baby. If age suitability, ingredients, fragrance or another detail matters, ask for information about the actual item before choosing. Avoid guessing from the appearance of a toy or the name of a food product.

Write a message without creating a task

Keep the message warm and uncomplicated. Acknowledge the family, sign your name and avoid an expectation of a quick response. If you are unsure how personal to be, follow the tone you normally use with the recipient.

Arrange a comfortable receiving situation

Ask where the family would prefer to receive a gift. A hospital or other facility has its own acceptance rules, and those rules need checking alongside delivery availability. Do not assume that a listed suburb confirms an institutional handover.

Decision checklist Check before choosing
Who is the gift for? Parents / baby / household: ______
Known preferences ______
Product information still needed ______
Preferred receiving arrangement ______
Message ready and name checked ______

Choose after the checks

Use the current new-parent collection as a starting point and read the individual product information. If an important detail remains unanswered, ask before ordering rather than making a suitability assumption.
